Negative Painting
in Watercolour

22/04/2022 - 29/04/2022

Introduction

Negative Painting with a Positive Attitude!

What better time of year, than the month of April to spend a week painting in the Scottish highlands with it's

beautiful skies, purple heather, mountains and rural villages.

A full week in the company of water, pigment and brushes. And the exciting technique of "Negative Painting". A method that enables you to produce amazing watercolours, without years of experience.

You will find your own personal style and your favourite subject matter with the aid of a few basic principles.

Watercolour is the perfect medium for painting negative forms, wet in wet, layers and layers of washes as well as finer brushwork. Watercolour does indeed have a life of its own and is at times frustrating, but for this technique, it is simply perfect!

Content

Every day, Trine will "meet you in class" for a two-hour technical session. Here Trine will demonstrate the Negative Painting technique alongside other fun exercises to inspire your own work.

We will spend our week sketching our preliminary drawings, before we head back to our watercolour pallet and paint our finished paintings.

Some of you will prefer painting on location, easel and all, others prefer to work inside - there are no fixed rules.

In the afternoons, we will work on our individual paintings, inside the house or out. Trine will stand by to help and guide you and to answer questions and make coffee!

We will only be interrupted at mealtimes, and the glorious food prepared by our chef Anna. These are

the only set times of our day. There might be a day where you prefer to take a walk, read a book,

stay in bed instead of painting, and that is ok.

Negative painting can be done in any media, so if you prefer acrylic then please bring that instead

of watercolour.

Remember! There are no judgment or goals on our retreats beyond the joy of painting itself!

Location

All this will take place in a splendid Scottish country house, located in picturesque surroundings of Perthshire.

We will ensure you a comfortable and unique stay with inspiring days, satisfying food and cosy evenings by the log fires.

We aim to take care of most things for you during the week. All you have to do is paint!
