Our two Scottish Spring retreats are as popular as ever and this time we are heading to the picturesque village of Falkland in Fife.
You can choose to come for the weekend, 15/16 April. Or for the whole week, 14-21 April.
Watercolour gets really fun once you mix it up a bit! Graphite, gouache, pastels, ink or salt. Everything can add extra interest and fun to watercolour. And that is exactly what we are going to delve into on this retreat!
As with all our retreats, every level of experience is catered for.
Nestled into an old stone stables, we will paint and get creative under Trine Pettigrew's expert guidance.
With narrow streets and houses, you will be spoilt for choice for a scene to paint.
Each morning, Trine will host her class for a two-hour technical session. Here Trine will demonstrate the watercolour techniques she uses every day as a professional artist and illustrator. You will be guided through fun exercises to inspire your own work and compleat sketches and preliminary drawings. Later in the day, you will have time and ongoing support from Trine and your fellow course goers in making larger mixed media paintings.
In the afternoons, we will work on our individual paintings, inside the stables. Trine will stand by to help and guide you and to answer questions.

Culinary expert Anna Cairns Pettigrew handcrafts the vegetarian dinners, which are heartwarming and nutritious. We strive that both your mind and spirit are attended to.
Groups are kept small so our guests can personally advance within the week.

One glass of wine with dinner. (Wine is also for sale in the cottage or BYOB from town)

Flights to and from Edinburgh/Glasgow
Travel to/from the venue ( we are happy to help arrange any taxis as needed )
Art materials.
Easels are for hire @ £10 for the week.
Daily schedule
Breakfast 8-9 am
Class 10-12 am
Lunch 12-1 pm in (local cafe at own expense, or packed lunch)
Dinner 6.30 pm

The choice of art materials available is so wide it can be mind-boggling! By all means enjoy the fun of experimenting with different products, and have fun!
But you will find that it makes life a lot easier to simplify your basic kit.

Acrylic paint
Pencils and crayons (optional Derwent Inktense sticks)
a nice quality magazine or printed out pictures of your choice
White Gesso
Cling-film
Painters tape
Kitchen towel
Brushes for your watercolour, but also for acrylics.
Palette
Water container
Palette knife
Large watercolour paper. No smaller than A3
If you would like to paint on canvas: Canvas(s) The size that fits your suitcase!
Sketch book and selection black pen, some waterproof some not
