An Introduction to Urban Sketching in Portugal

Urban Sketching in Portugal
Morning tuition

I am just back from teaching a wonderful group of woman from Sweden, Denmark and Scotland. We started as we continued each morning doing a few blind contour drawings in our sketchbooks.

And that always loosens the smiles and hands. Lots of fun and good practice.

Urban sketching can be a challenge, sitting out there in the open, strangers walking by, looking, but we did it!

For most of the group, this was a first time experience.

I am very proud that everybody had the courage and did amazingly. After that, most of the group continued to draw out in the open everyday.

And a collection of beautiful sketches were made.

After that, we got our watercolour pallets out, and again, off we went. Sketches were painted, different techniques were learned, and the beautiful art of Negative Painting were tried and either loved or... Just tried ;-)

We also had fun with our View finders, where again beautiful paintings emerged.

All of this, in a beautiful old pink house, nice weather and amazing vegetarian food, cooked freshly three times a day by Anna Pettigrew, made it all come together once again.

And on the last night, a small private viewing of all the paintings and drawings, and a glass of bubbly.

Thank you to everybody for a memorable week.
